Dear Diary,
Alright another 3 weeks have just gone by
and I have missed another several blog entries. This is the last post re my time in Minnesota. Just have to include this picture because i love it haha.
Firstly, we had Spring Jam which was super duper fun! I was the first sunny weekend in
Minnesota! Everyone was out day drinking, getting nice and crispy in the sun and generally having a ball! As we weren’t
technically part of the greek community, we sat and ate breakfast in the sun
outside Tony’s diner then went to a party at one of Tom’s friends place.

We
played flip-cup which is a wonderful yet messy game which I am surprisingly
good at. I don’t think the girls would condone playing it though….. somehow I
don’t think beer going everywhere would appeal to them. Afterwards we went to a
frat they call PIKE because they turned their front yard into a beach
volleyball court equip with what they call sand…. (realistically they paid
$3000 for a pile of dirt and grit but shhhh lets not ruin their fun now). Also
went on the jumping castle at the lion frat and continued on to Sigma spew (ie
Sigma Pi) for a last hurrah before a meal of wings and the Matt Kearney
concert. The concert, being free, was naturally good. I you can never complain
about freebies right? But it was actually pretty decent.
Ok going to skip forward a few more weeks…
nothing else really happened of note apart from studying for finals and the
usual weekly karaoke schenanigans, my first baseball game (which i actually enjoyed despite the Twins fantastic performance) and a trip to Duluth with Dani, Justyna,
Wesley and Domdom.
Duluth is a lakeside town/city about 2hrs north of
Minneapolis. Its on lake superior which is the worlds largest body of fresh
water and combined with the other great lakes makes up 20% of the worlds fresh
water supply. All I kept thinking was jeeeeeese Wivenhoe could have used some
of this a few years ago! I’ll just put some pictures up of Duluth for you to
peruse… but one thing to comment on was the weather. It was ridiculous! Within
a time span of 5min, yep no jokes… 5min, it would go from blazing sun, to
sleeting rain and hideous wind, to snow and then back to sun! we literally
couldn’t keep up!
After final exams, a few of us went on a
trip to Chicago –the windy city. The crew was Portia, Dani, Justyna, my self
and our gay best friend Wesley (only kidding :P). We also met Natalia for one
day while we were there. We did all the touristy things like, went to navy pier
(inc the ferris wheel), went up Willis/Sears tower, went to the Lincoln park
Zoo, did Millennium park, ate a deep pan pizza, did a boat tour, drank a swanky
cocktail up the Hancock tower (with the most breathtaking view from the women’s
bathroom!), ate at some ancient Maccas and just generally walked around basking
in the sunshine! It was a wonderful trip and I instantly fell in love with the
city. So many flowers! I couldn’t help myself picking all the tulips (trust me
it was no crime there were that many of them…) and taking a kazillion pictures.
The Europeans were very amused, especially Wesley, after all Netherlands are
known for their tulips. Ooooohhhh and I forgot! We went and saw the Broadway
show “The book of Mormon”. It was hilarious! So funny! But I do warn you it was
very very inappropriate and left me shocked at its vulgarity at some points but
meh I guess that’s what separates it from others. I will have to post the remainder of the pictures from the beautiful chicago in a later post as Miss Portia has them on her camera and hasnt passed them on yet. But i promise you they are coming! They are too beautiful not to!
A chance to add some more pictures rather than just blab again, also within the time since my last post we went to Fogo de Chao (ridiculously expensive and delicious brazilian bbq) and ate enough to give birth to twins and i am not exaggerating when i say i actually couldnt walk after my meal.
I mean if your going to pay $50 (in america its worth alot more, when i get home im going to be outraged paying over $15 :/) but yes when you pay that much you have to get your monies worth in! We also went to the sculpture garden.
And had a beautiful last official international get-to-gether at lake Calhoun. And yes i couldn't resist going swimming despite the lake being frozen the week before.

Now for the blog version of the last 2
nights in Minneapolis. It was so good hanging out with all the internationals
again. I didn’t want to register that we were all leaving each other in a
matter of hours… it was too sad. We were literally like a little family. Not to
be a sop story but the wonderful people I have met over here are literally some
of my best friends. They snuck up on me in a matter of months and I will never
ever forget a single one of them. They have made me so much more cultured and
have changed me as a person (hopefully for the better but I will let you all be
the judge of that). And yes, tears did fall on the last night, I couldn’t help
myself but I know im not loosing these friends. No not at all. Like everyone
keeps saying its just an “I’ll see you later.” Awwww geese guys I am getting
all chocked up writing this (may also have something to do with my overtired
emotional state of pulling an all nighter in order to get to the airport by
4.30 this morning). On a serious note, all the internationals <3 <3 <3
<3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

By the time I post this, I will be in Colombia and there will be
more fantastic tails to tell in PART TWO OF THE JOURNEYYYYY.
Until then, Kisses and Hugs,
Dee
