Cabin Fever

20/02/13

Its been about a week since I have written and a lot has happened! Jack, a nice american boy (with a car :P ), invited me round on Monday night to study with him first off. In my head I was like yeah right… study… pffttt. Study what? Anatomy? But he genuinely did want to study :) He spent the whole night typing out resumes for when he graduated. Well he did that for half the night until i became a distracting noobhead. The other half we both spent looking up funny Australian slang and paying out my accent (being centre of attention is fine by me). The only fault to this night was that i was starrrving and my tummy was grumbling all the way to 11pm when I got home!

Ok Tuesday there was nothing to report, except throughout the whole week Dani (frenchie) and I joined up at corepower to do our sculpt classes. So more sweat and tears there. But it truly is just an awesome class.

Wednesday nothing really exciting again that I can remember….Thursday however, VALENTINES DAY! First off, I was preparing myself for dejection and loneliness as I walked the streets during the day watching literally a thousand boys walk in and out of cafes and shops with bunches of flowers. It wasn’t actually depressing at all I just wanted dramatic effect! Valentines is such a big thing here and it is so cute! I wish Australia got more into it and that my Grinch of a father would dote upon his lovely angels every year because seriously it makes your heart melt just watching it all! Well anyway Portia and I went to the bookstore and stocked up some more on gopher gear and MN attire at the V-Day sales and received our complementary rose with delight.

Later in the night I succumbed to a delicious dinner in bed with a soppy movie and my tin of milo (in which I ate copious spoonfuls from).
It was at this point that I got surprised. Yes…. I GOT A VALENTINES! WOOOOO (and not just from this little cutie)

haha… jokes… I wasn’t ridiculously excited at being included in this American phenomenom at all… But anyway Jack called up and asked if I wanted to go and drink some wine and watch movies with him and Alex and then meet his friend Maisy. At this point it was 10pm and I said nahhh because I had an 8am exam the next day. But he convinced me when he said he had a little surprise for me.. Anyway the big fricken cutie got me a long stem red rose, timtams (half a box, but still!) and a card <3. And he got me home before midnight because he didn’t want to destroy any of my hopes at passing my exam. So I got spoilt in the end anyway :)

Ok this is where the fun part of the week starts. After my exam on Friday, the exchanges got picked up by Cari’s dad and drove up to the cabin at Lake Gull! Its 2.5hrs north of Minneapolis which means it is the furthest north I have ever been!

The cabin was beautiful! We went out walking on the lake that afternoon, watched movies and went to dinner. Then we got back home an boozed it up. Lots of drinking games including kings, never have I ever, spin the bottle and anything we could come up with for an excuse to drink.

Anyway I was a bit of a party pooper that night. I went to check on Cari who was sleeping and exclaimed, “I’m just resting my eyes for 5 min and I will be back out.” I thought this was an excellent idea and rested my eyes too. Eight hours later I woke up feeling wonderful...

Anyway there were 13 of us in total at the cabin and so we had to share beds everynight. The lucky ones got a nice warm spot on the floor. For breakfast that morning we cooked up a loaf of bread, a packet of bacon and 36 eggs in a massive cheesy scramble.

It was delicious. The rest of the day was spent cleaning and watching movies. I also decided it would be a good idea in my impatient boredom (waiting for snow tubing) to see how long i could last outside with no shoes on... 30seconds is a lot longer than it sounds!!

We also went snow tubing once everyone woke up. Snow tubing was great! Apart from the massive starfish faceplant that I managed… trust me on rock hard snow sliding down a hill it’s not fun.

Again we went home, all had showers and then me Jaime and Javi cooked up a massssive bowl of spaghetti and garlic bread. It was literally the biggest bowl of spaghetti I have ever seen! At completion of the feast, the boozing once again began. This time we started off with some Big Bang theory drinking games, BAZINGAAAA!!!! I was a good night,  we were dancing on top of the cupboards, drawing on Javi’s face and yelling PLACA PLACA at certain individuals ** cough cough…** I even managed to wake up after 3hrs sleep without a hangover!!

We drove back on Sunday and Jack  took me food shopping. He is really sweet. I’m going to get back to Australia and be all lonely because I swear no Australian guys are like this!

Anyway,

Till next week. Dee xo

To the death of my liver

11/02/2013

I have not written in a while. Right at this very moment I am sitting in finance fundementals listening to my Asian lecturer sing lullabies (or he may as well be). It is the most boring class and I am still drunk from my night out last night. Ok so there are some major things that have been omitted from this post and I hope it still makes sense when i cut and paste it all around. But we will start on tuesday night at the bar b-loco. On the tuesday of your birthday you get to drink for free if you bring 5 friends.

I was sipping long islands all night and had a great time from what I can remember… Chris, this  boy who is clearly madly in love with me (sadly not reciprocated love) also kept buying me drinks because at $3 a long island who wouldn’t!!! It was a great night and to be honest we all probably got a little too merry. Doing karaoke to linkin park is never a good idea....

Now I have to get into the emo depresso side of the night…. We left at 2am when the bar closed and in the process I left my $300/ was discounted from $650 jacket at b-loco and I lost mums beanie! I was emo for the rest of the day and refused to put on makeup or anything and just felt like a massive grease pit. Yes I did make it to my 8am lecture, yes I did look like a drug addict, yes I did stupidly decided that it was alright to still talk to people… arrrrrgggghhh. I went back to b-loco the next afternoon and thankfully found the jacket but the beanie i thought was gone forever... (dont worry, happy ending approaching).

Ok… so what else is there that I have forgotten… ah yes well I told the swim coach that I wanted to quit. He was fine about it and said that I was more than welcome to come back. Also the little swimming girls told me I HAD to come in on my birthday because they wanted to make me a cake! And a cake they did make! It was a double decker vanilla choc chip made from scratch. Then because they couldn’t decide if I liked choc or vanilla better they made a massive brownie as well! So on my birthday I had brownie and cake for breakfast, brownie and cake for lunch, and brownie and cake (as well as Vietnamese) for dinner! Gosh it was good but I felt so sick for it…. Haha.

Also on my birthday another one of the swimming girls/ pseudo coaches, Stacy, took me sledding! It was so much fun! She is literally the nicest person and if she swam every session then I might just swim too!!! So not only did I get to go for a sled, but I also got to ride in a “pickup” it was so American it was uncanny!

Finally we went out that night but it was pretty lame… I mean my ID worked!!! But the club was all really weird emo techno and people were wearing like fluro bikinis, space helmets and big platform shoes etc…. to make matters worse I got hit on by this mass seed Zeyo. Who text me later that night saying: “This is a VIP#, store with care –Zeyo.” And if you are wondering why I gave him my number…. It was a trade off so that he would buy me and Dani a drink! I mean I don’t have to reply so no hard hurt and I save $10 :D Because of Zeyo I just had to leave… So yeah the best part of that night was the pre-drinks!

The next day I went to Annies and met Jon and Emma! They are so lovely and I really hope to hang out with them a little more. Maybe go to some nice dinner places with them or something J at Annies I had their signature malt and grilld cheese. Now the malt is like a super-duper thick thickshake that you have to eat with a spoon! And when you order one it literally fills up 3 tall parlour glasses full! The flavor I got was hot fudge peanut butter cup :D so so so so so delicious! Oh and the grilld cheese was triple layer with three types of cheese, bacon and tomato all covered in butter and fried! So basically I had a weeks worth of carbs and fat in one sitting….

Ok so its now Sunday afternoon and yet again I have a hangover. I’m not going to drink until next Friday atleast. I promise. So uni was pretty boring this week. We went out to b.loco and blarney’s for karaoke on Thursday night! Its so funny the manager at b.loco knows me and the bouncers at blarneys do too so now I don’t really have to show ID! How cool is that! I suppose its not quite as good the fact that I haven’t been to one finance class this week without being drunk or hungover…

Earlier in the week Dominic and I tried cooking up some Lutefisk which is a Norwegian delicacy of cod, soaked in lye (stuff you make soap out of) then rinsed and steamed... its the consistency of jelly... but tastes like fish! so wrong on so many levels but hey... its not thaaaat bad :D

On Friday night we had a girls night (strictly no sausages)! It was so lovely.
We all cooked something from our country (or bought chips and cookies and chocolates) and sat down and stuffed our faces and watched Pitch Perfect. So funny!!! Anyway I need to give kudos to Justyna for her amazing berliners! They were homemade jam and cream filled doughnuts. I literally died and went to food baby heaven <3 the consequences though were a guilt ridden trip to a sculpt class the next morning with dani. It is like bikram yoga on crack! They heat the room to 35-40 degrees celcius and then make you do wacked up yoga with weights and pushups and squats and ridiculous stuff. It was good though considering last night! I’m off this afternoon to take an easy class (hopefully).

We had another girls predrinks last night and went to sigma pi for a little frat but it wasn’t very good but we had an excellent night none the less.

Its really weird ordering shots though because all of ours have really dirty names and none of the americans know them! But i have found one called a scoobie snack and it is to die for! Its this delicious shot they have which is basically just a super-duper potent pina-colada. Simply beautiful.

Well that’s all for now…. I’m sure I have forgotten tonnes and tonnes of detail but meh…

Oh wait!!! They happy ending from before! Dominic (switz boy) found my beenie by the side of the road on saturday night! YES THATS RIGHT 5DAYS LATER!!! its filthy but so happy its back in my arms :)

Until next time,

Dee xx
