Gym Slut

There are two parts to this post because I have been slack. So here we go :)

25/01/13

I have to start with a rant. So I went to the gym for the first time today to do my weights program and I walk up stairs from the locker with everyone looking at me thinking oh yeah I must look pretty fit or something still. As I walk through the doors of the weights room I get chased down by the manager. You want to know why??? They have a dress code… yes that’s right a dress code! And apparently I had breached it. No wonder everyone was staring at me!

The rules states one must wear a neck rimmed sleeved shirt, shorts and enclosed shoes at all times. So here I was in my pink lorna jane singlet and shorts being made to put on a “one size fits all” sweaty gross community teeshirt with “please return to reception” scribbled on the back in permanent marker; all so that I would cover up my “inappropriate” clothing. Hahahahahaha I felt like a slutty 13yr old at a school social being made to put on the naughty shirt! Jesus Maria if at brothers on bike/box/skip on a Tuesday we are pretty much go by a ‘clothing is optional’ ruling. They would honestly have a heart attack! Bahahaha GOD ALMIGHTY!

Anyway rant over. I have started making Aus day preparations for tonight/ tomorrow where I am going to force my new found exchanges to eat copious amounts of milo cake that I have made, drink hot milos, eat tim tams and get ridiculously merry with me whilst listening to the hottest 100! (I wont insist they try vegemite, although I might have a slice of toast for brekky tomorrow if I can fit it in).

I also went and had a swim with Marc, the big cutie, and did 700yards in 20min hahahah poor boy, he only managed about 300! It was fun though and made me feel less guilty about not training. I really don’t think it is worthwhile training with the twin city club. Don’t get me wrong we did 7,600yards the other night and it almost killed me! But seriously there is no atmosphere and I find myself dreading to go. So really whats the point if I don’t enjoy it? Will probably just stick to a gym program and swim sporadically.. such a shame though L

Well its been a quick entry but I haven’t really done much since class has started so yeah…I just had to have a ragefit at the gym thing! Time for part two!

30/01/2013

Ok it is decided. I am going to quit swimming. I feel really bad and already feel like I am disappointing the coach even though I have known him for a week.

Since the last entry we went to the crashed ice extraordinaire! Its where 4 ice hockey players basically spped skate down a luge course with obstacles etc. It’s pretty fun to watch apart from the frost bite and numb extremities. They actually did warn us about frostbite on really cold days!! :/ on that same night we went to a frat party at sigma pi.

The next day Justyna and I went back to St Paul (where the crashed ice was) and had breakfast (at 2.30pm) at Cassettas. We had to walk through sleet/rain to get there but it was worth it for this beautiful big lasagne was waiting for our belly’s!

While we sheltered from the cold inside and half slept off our hangover at the table it started to snow! By the time got out it looked like this: SO BEAUTIFUL!

For the next hour or so we walked around St Paul and found the Winter Carnival –complete with folk music, ice sculptures and a bar.

Despite this, again my week has been boring and I have been studying like a mofo. I do miss home and am a little sick with some sinus thing. It’s quite delightful because I sniff and snort like Aaron (from swimming, pj) does.

Oh and I bought COACHELLA TICKETS! Be jealous bitches!!

Much love

Cold Crazes

22/01/13

Ok so I haven’t written in a few days… I don’t know where to begin! Well for a start Justyna, Dominic, Carlos, Pol, Marc and I went to see Monster Jam at the metrodome!
It was pretty good but I wouldn’t go again, lots of hicks with their kids screaming at machines. But for the most part it was a fun experience.
Unfortunately we got home just a little tooooo late to make it to the bottle shop so my night atleast fizzled out from there. (Fun Fact # bottle shops are not open on Sundays….)
We ended up having a beer and then going to a party in one of the village apartments but I was sick of getting hit on by these so called Brazilian’s (belle… I don’t know what Brazilian boys you met but all the ones I have are NOT attractive!! L ) and so I left for bed. Turns out the party got shut down so everyone moved to a frat and ended up coming home at 5AM.

The next day I met Portia (English exchange student living next door) today. She is wonderful! I had been speaking to her on facebook and seriously when we met it was like we had been friends for years! She is so easy to talk to and super funJ As well as that Portia and I went to Applebee’s with the brazillian girls. Again it was a huge meal but I think it was healthier…. (fettuccine with prawns??).

That afternoon I went and watched the super bowl semi’s at Sally’s (Patriots v Ravens) and then headed to another party. After having a few shots (I was the bar tender and quite good at it I would say), we walked down to Vince’s frat to drop off a hat and then continued on to the next house. We do a lot of walking around here and I swear I always sober up by the time we actually reach the party. Once there it was alright… nothing special but again I met lots of lovely people! And I stole Marc’s watch J he he he  when we left at 3.30am we had to walk around 2.5km back home and by jesus it was cold and windy. Yesterday was meant to be a record low of -30c and we were walking home in that!

However, I think the expedition home made me sick the next day because I was coughing up all kinds of yukky gunky things. Apparently when it is that cold all of the stuff inside your sinus freeze!!! How weird is that!

So anyway we decided to make the most of the cold weather and head outside to do some ridiculously immature things. First off we took out the bubble blowers. What happens is the bubbles freeze! I admit it was a little bit of an anti climax because the definition of freeze in this case is the formulation of a weird, thin, filmy thing. When the film breaks it doesn’t pop like a bubble would but it splits and so you can have two halves of the bubble or something. You can touch it and it is really weird too but definitely not worth taking off your gloves for.

The next thing we tried was throwing boiling water in the air! Now this one is cool! Basically what happens is you make snow because all the steam and condensation stuff freezes when you throw it all. Here’s a link to it, ours wasn’t as impressive but it was still awesome! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKMNSvpB9dY

One other thing that is pretty cool but pretty annoying too is icicles on my eyelashes! The steam from my breath condenses on my eyelashes and makes little icicles before I can take my next breath out. It’s annoying though when the top freeze to the bottom or else they freeze to my scarf or beanie.. Oh and plus the Mississippi completely froze over last night.

Also it was finally it was my first day of classes today…. BLURRRRRGHHHH on the plus side Justyna, Dominic and I went to buffalo wild wings for 60c wing Tuesday :D

Last but not least… I haven’t been doing any gym or much swimming and I have totally lost all my arm muscles and my legs are all flabby and skinny! Its really weird and I don’t like it L

Anyway im off for the night.

Xoxo Dee PS apologies for the 1000000000 spelling and grammatical errors... I cant afford an editor ;)

FRAT-FRAT-FRAT-FRAT

19/01/13

I shall start from the iceskating the other night J so seedy stef picked me and the boys up again and drove us there which again was quite lovely. Once there we met his friend Yulia and then the rest of the exchange students. Iceskating was hislarious! I fell over twice L Yulia was really nice and taught me how to skate backwards like a pro. She also said that she would take me skating outside near her house if I would like which would be TOTALLY AWESOME! I don’t know if it will ever eventuate though…

(Some of the Exchange Crew)

From iceskating Stefan drove us back again and then we waited for him and Yulia to pick us up. I don’t know what they were doing for the hour inbetween….. but hmmm oh well.

The Frat was so much fun J all these crazy American girls dance like idiots but its hilarious and so much better because of it! I got taught how to do the wobble dance and played beerpong (except they are pussies and do it with water these days because of the swine flu outbreak a few years ago) and tip-a-cup! I met lots of people and got a little two enthusiastic with the blue raspberry vodka.

The way these parties work is you pay $5 for your own cup and then it is unlimited (until the keg runs out) beer. You can bring your own spirits if you like as well. I only got three larrrrgeee cups worth of beer before it ran out and had to switch to this blue vodka. Now to put in perspective… its blue, it tastes like baby cough medicine and it comes in close to a 2L plastic bottle. Now I can understand my ridiculous headache the next morning.

One of the funnest parts would have to be the walk home actually. VJ (indian born switz boy), directed me, Pol and Carlos back to the apartments (2km walk). On the way he made us stop off at Maccas to try and sober up. The boys got burgers and I just stole a couple of fries from a neighbouring couple. When the boys saw they came over and we all decided to do cheers and shots with the fries (basically touching fries, cheering, then eating). Sounds completely stupid and trust me it looked it too! Our hilarious and goodwilled schenanigans however did alert us to the manager who threatened to call the police if we didn’t leave immediately L I didn’t think we were that rowdy but meh! Who knows! From there we walked and sang and stumbled home making snow angels in the 2mm worth of snow that had fallen through the night. So basically we were just lying on the ground wriggling around (I know you are probably disgusted mum… but lets just pretend you didn’t read that).

All in all I got some peoples numbers and actually got invited to another party by this guy the next night but I was too dog tired and hungover still that I just got some free grub from this welcome party on campus then watched gossip girl with marc then went to sleep J.

Perks of being a tourist

Ok I will start off with our tour around Minneapolis and St Paul :) no need to say anything about that. pictures will do just fine I think.
Now for Sally’s saloon on the Wednesday night (14/01/13) which is where we went as our first orgainsed "exchange get-together". So it was pretty good… we were told to eat dinner before hand and we would be provided with some snacks at Sally’s. Good thing I didn’t eat because it was a fricken 3 course dinner buffet! There was nachos, then a big platter of raw vegetables, then chicken wings, fried chicken fillets, pasta bake and something else I didn’t bother looking at along with all these dipping sauces and stuff. Sally’s also provided free popcorn! I am constantly amazed. Anyway I met Stephan (my assigned buddy) and he seemed nice but he is European anyway so not really "American". I get this weird vibe from him though… I don’t know what it is?? But he bought me my first beer which was really cool and nice of him. It was actually quite nice! No doubt because he bought me the local EXTRA pale ale. This was probably a good decision on his behalf because again it was huge and I would have been on my face if it was a premium. In the end I walked home with him and the drunkie Spanish boys around 11 which was quite funny and definitely late enough for me.

Now, onto today! Firstly I set my alarm for 6.10 but woke up naturally anyway. I was tired but I decided to go for a run in the gym and then get ready. So after an hour and a half I’m all set after having a run, a shower, a big brekky omelette, getting fully dressed ready to go and realizing I didn’t infact wake at 6.10 but 5.10…. such a dumbass but oh well meant I could go back to bed for 45min of glorious sleep.

The day was totally uneventfull and boring as batshit. But they did provide us with breakfast and lunch so that was good. The only thing I can report on actually today is the food again!! So I had a massive omelette at home, then I got there and had a tea, a crossoint and three blueberry scones. Then for lunch I had four massive (New York Slice style) pizza pieces, three cookies and a peanut butter cup :/ Then for dinner this big mama!(grilled chicken burger, healthiest thing under $20 on the menu at the shitty rainforest café). I was so confused getting it because the waitress asked if I wanted to upgrade from chips to fries. Whats the difference right??? Well chips are like smiths chips as you can see in the picture and fries are hot chips! Who the hell would serve smiths chips with a burger at a restaurant??? Its just retarded. Seriously RETARDED.

Anyway to kind of wrap up the day the business students went to the mall but Stefan (my buddy) offered to drive me and the Spaniards and Justyna (polish girl). So we all went for a bit of a shop and then for dinner at the rainforest café and then home.

Anyway, goodnight!
